Pastor - Fr. David Kime

I am the youngest of nine children and “The Region” has always been my home. My parents were immigrants to the United States who came here shortly after WWII. My father was a machinist who worked in the mills - which is what attracted my family to the area. My mother was a life-long Catholic while my father was a convert to Catholicism from the Church of England. Faith was always an important part of my family while growing up. In my parents I saw a brilliant example of generous love. Their example made it easy for me to say “Yes” to my vocation to the priesthood as they had said “Yes” to their vocation of marriage.

After high school I entered the seminary. I graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, MN. From there I did my theological studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, MI. I was ordained to the priesthood in 1997. My assignments have included St. Mary in E.C., St. Bridget in Hobart, St. Joseph in LaPorte and most recently St. Francis in Lake Station. I taught in Catholic high school for 7 years and completed a master’s degree in Education during my time as a teacher. I have been a priest for 24 years and consider the call to the priesthood one of God’s greatest gifts in my life. I am fully convinced that if young men knew the profound joy of serving as a priest that they would be hammering down the doors to get accepted to the seminary. The Priesthood is a beautiful expression of God’s love for the world.

Let us hold each other in prayer. We are a community of faith and together we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our broken world. Our world desperately needs the witness of faithful Christians like yourselves. Through the ordinary experience of our lives, the mystery of Christ will radiate to the world. I am happy to be a part of this mission with you as we proclaim the light of Jesus amidst the shadows of this world.
